ABOUT

Magic Pebble Speech and Art represents a combined 30 years of professional experience in speech therapy and art education.

Michelle Dillon, MA

Michelle has been a speech language pathologist for over twenty years, working in both schools and outpatient settings. She has run Speech Sounds Pediatric Therapy, a small private practice in Goodyear, Arizona, since 2008.

Therapy Style

Michelle balances child-led activities with more structured therapist-led activities. She incorporates literature into activities whenever possible, providing therapy with activities based on popular children's books. She loves to combine literature, art, and pretend play into her sessions whenever possible.

Education

Michelle graduated from Rutgers University in 1995 with a BA in Comparative Literature. She obtained her MA in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2002 from Montclair State University. Michelle is also trained in PROMPT and Gestalt Language Processing.

and More

Michelle has two children diagnosed with autism. One child needs minimal support while the other needs moderate levels of support. It's important to Michelle to create activities that can be adapted to suit a wide range of educational needs. Michelle lives in Goodyear, Arizona with her husband, two kids, two cats, a dog, and four fish.

Betsy Andrews Etchart, MFA

Betsy has taught art for over ten years, working in elementary school, college, creative aging, and adaptive settings. Through her company, ColorWheelsAZ, she brings hands-on art to hundreds of students every year. Before she became an art teacher, Betsy wrote award-winning poetry and feature articles appearing in Cricket, Mountain Living, Sun Valley Magazine, and other national publications. She's is a two-time Master Artist for Gallery 37, a national program in which high school students create large scale works of public art.

Teaching Style

Betsy also advocates Dr. Elliot Eisner of Stanford University's philosophy that learning occurs when children use their hands creatively to engage their minds, creating a feedback loop of original thought and imagination. She believes that laughter opens the brain to learning and finds inspiration for art projects in picture books and children's poetry. (Skunk Asparagus Supreme Pie, anyone? Find the recipe HERE.)

Education

Betsy received an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goucher College in 2011 and a BA in Art History and Studio Art from Mount Holyoke College in 1989. She is a certified creative aging instructor.

and More

Betsy grew up in New England and Alaska. She lives in Goodyear, Arizona with two teenage sons, an English lap spaniel who answers to Charles Hamilton (or Biscuit!), and a herd of dust bunnies that prefer to remain unnamed.
